Thank your for your interest in volunteering with us!
We are a volunteer-based, non-profit organization. Hence,
we need people like you to keep doing what we do best, which
is reaching out and providing educational support to children
living in homeless shelters, foster care and transitional
housing.
1. Determine how you want to help us. Take
the Prospective
Tutor Self-Assessment quiz to determine whether tutoring
is for you -- and if it's not, don't fret! We have many volunteer
roles available to those who want to be involved!
2. Fill out an application (see links to
the side) and send it in:
Call 202-223-0144 ext. 10 or email us with any questions.
3. Come to an Orientation. Orientations
happen at least once a month, and are a great way to learn
more about our organization, the philosophy behind what we
do and how to get started as a tutor.
All prospective volunteers should bring the following to orientation:
- A valid government issued ID
- A completed Project Northstar Volunteer Application
- A check for $18 made payable to Project Northstar (This
is to cover the cost of your mandatory FBI background check.)
Please email us at office@projectnorthstar.org
to RSVP to a session or to receive a schedule of available
orientation sessions.
4. Attend an On Site Orientation at your Tutoring
Site. During this session you will meet the Academic
Case Manager at your site, observe a tutor/student pair and
familiarize yourself with site procedures. |
