Types of Scholarships

Merit Based Students with strong academic success are usually awarded these scholarships. Athletic scholarships are considered merit based.
Need Based These scholarships are awarded dependent upon the student's family's financial situation.
Community Service For outstanding community service and leadership displayed by a student.
Demographics Based Based typically on gender, age, race, religion, or geographic location of the student.
Talent/Unique Awarded for those with a talent or unique ability, such as being left handed.

College Prep Websites

CollegePrep-101 A website put together by faculty and students from Oklahoma State University. Includes a college planning checklist, what to pack, and standardized testing information.
Princeton Review Provides detailed information on schools, testing, and scholarships.
US News & World Report Provides detailed annual rankings and scholarship information.
NCAA The official organization regulating college athletics. A good resource for those thinking about playing college sports.
College Board/SAT A standardized test measuring reading, writing, and mathematical skills. Required for college admission by many institutes of higher learning.
ACT A standardized test comparable to the SAT. More commonly used in the midwest and the southern states.
